Countdown to the Toronto Chinese Orchestra’s June 28th concert: WEEK 13

Roy Cheng, a well-known Bass Baritone soloist, was formerly a programme producer and director of Mandarin channel of Radio Singapore and Rediffusion Commercial Radio. He holds a Master degree from Shanghai Conservatory of Music. At various stages of his career, Mr. Cheng served as soloist and vocal music instructor with the Shanghai Orchestra Chorus Section.
Since 1974, he held a teaching position at Hong Kong Baptist University, Hong Kong Music Institute, and the ATV Artist Training Institutes. Many professional international singers have trained by Mr. Cheng. He established and conducted the Hong Kong Youth Choir of the HK Government Music Department and Roy Cheng’s Choir in HK.
Mr. Cheng has represented Hong Kong as Chief Adjudicator at Southeast Asia Youth Singer Competition for many sessions. He has given recitals in China, Hong Kong, Singapore, and North America. As a soloist, he was worked with the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra, and Hong Kong Oratorio Society. He has sung leading roles in Beethoven’s Symphony No.9, Handel’s Messiah, and many Chinese and Western Operas, including Yevgeny Onegin and La Traviata.
We are excited to have Mr. Cheng perform Song of the Pipa with us at this concert. It is a Toronto premiere of this important work.
