Kimberly Yang
Hi, my name is Kimberly Yang, currently a grade 10 high school student in Thornhill. Throughout my life, music has been a major part of my life. From choir, playing a wide range of instruments, to composing music, overall it has been a great influence. Alongside music, some of my interests include writing, reading, winter sports, and in general anything related to the arts. Amongst TCO, the instrument I play is a plucked instrument called the Zhongruan. I’ve been playing Zhongruan for the past five or six years, and it has become a major part of my life and who I am, helping me musically to better understand how to incorporate oneself into an orchestra, as well as the overall background of Chinese instruments and music as a whole. Playing within TCO, and the idea of orchestra in general, has been a great experience so far. When together, we all communicate with each other, while also being able to play and create music which could not be done on the same scale alone. From playing traditional pieces, to western as well, everyone immerses themselves in a world which is only possible within an orchestra. Not only that, but being able to play in front of audiences and to get out there and spread knowledge on the culture of Chinese instruments and music, it helps push one out of their comfort zone while also creating a memorable experience for both the player and audience.
