Sky Yang
Erhu
My name is Sky, currently 11 years old, and I’m from Thornhill. Over the years, my background in music is very wide, and I have a lot of experience. From playing instruments such as the bass clarinet and piano, it has changed me into a better person today. Not only that, but I compose music, having won multiple provincial competition. I won first provincially and 4th federally with my composition in 2017, which was called “Sailor’s Tale.” Alongside music, I have a wide variety of hobbies such as basketball, curling, public speaking, and visual arts. Within orchestra, the instrument I play is the Erhu. The Erhu being a string instrument, has two strings. So far, I have been playing the Erhu for 6 or more years now, taking level 7 for Erhu, and am currently learning a second chinese instrument called the Suona. Within TCO, being able to play in an orchestra is a great experience because we get to go through a variety of songs and learn about different styles of music. Some songs are also quite difficult, which I enjoy as this makes me practice more on the songs. Overall, I think that TCO is great because everybody, even though
there is a huge age range, we all are kind to each other and we treat one another with respect, and share the same goal; which is to spread joy through music.
