Introduction: Emilie Chan, visual artist

Our Art Exhibit on June 9th will also feature Ms. Emilie Chan, a prominent artist in our community. Emilie’s artwork will displayed and available for purchase in the lobby of the Markham Peoples Community Church. Doors will open at 6:00pm, so come meet Emilie before our concert! Her paintings have also been selected to be displayed during the performance.

Emilie Chan has been an artist as well as an art and design instructor in Hong Kong and Canada for over 40 years. Many of her students are physically disabled to whom not only has she taught art and design, but also painstakingly guided and assisted them to establish their places in society.

She has organized over 70 art exhibitions for artists, including special exhibitions for the disabled artists, carrying the show titles such as <My Fate In My Own Hands>, <Spirit of Life> and <Walking Together>, which has roamed over the world for showing.

Not only is Emilie a creative and accomplished artist, she is as well a photographer and a writer. She authored such books as: Reverie (collection of her artworks), Spirit of Life, Nature’s Symphony (collection of her articles and short essays), and Psalms of My Life (collection of poem and drawings).

Being a distinguished and celebrated member of her community, she has received many awards, including the Toronto Millennium Canada Day Achievement Award and the 2004 Chinese Canadian Legend Inspirational Award (Asian Business Network Association). She is the President of the Toronto Chinese Writers’ Association and currently Consultant to Chinese Brush Art Association of Canada.
